How you use each file to make a product or design for commercial use can depend on which type of license you have, the types of products you want to use and what you want to make! Below is an overview of what you may and may not do according to the type of product you want to use.

1. CUTTING FILES (SVG)
A Cutting File: Any craft file designs labeled as “cut files.” (NOTE: This designation includes all file formats within the cutting files set.)
There are two license options for cutting files (local commercial use or trial / personal use only)
TUL: Trial Use License | Cutting Files
If you have downloaded an SVG file (cutting files set) for FREE, it comes with a trial use license. Non-commercial or gain anything, but your own pure joy and creative fun from using it!
W/ A TUL You May:
- You May: Use the cutting files to make gifts & craft projects for your personal gifting & use.
- You May: Upgrade the trial use license to a standard license, for commercial (physical local sales) use!
W/ a TUL You May NOT:
- You May Not: Sell, Gift, lend, giveaway, share, reproduce, transfer, redistribute, the files in any way, as finished goods, graphics, supplies or digital assets.
SUL: Standard Use License | Cutting Files
If you have bought or upgraded a SVG cut file in my shops, the files include a standard use license. Cutting file packages purchased with this license can be used for limited (small + offline) commercial use!
W/ A SUL You May:
- You May: Use files for local sales. (Craft fairs, markets, shops)
- You May: Use the images on a physical end-product –100 x per license purchase.
- You May: Re-Purchase for a license reset if the item you made to sell using it surpasses 100 end-product sales.
W/ a SUL You May NOT:
- You May Not: Gift, lend, giveaway, share, transfer, reproduce, redistribute, or SELL files as graphics, supplies or digital assets.
- You May Not: Sell what you make online in any shop or marketplace. (Local only)
2. CLIPART & DIGITAL PAPER & PATTERNS
ClipArt: PNG graphics & Sets of themed, illustrated images. (color or black and white line art)
Digital Paper: Repeat, patterned or solid color background images.
Transformative Use Requirements
Under each license type, The Digital Paper, Patterns & ClipArt can be used for limited commercial / promotional use providing the Digital assets are used in a transformative way and ultimately adding new value, expression, or purpose to the original end-products you are offering.
This transformation is achieved with design enhancements which can include creating compositions using other design elements or adding purposeful / educational content to form a cohesive design!
Don't overthink it. Just put some effort and thought into what you make so it is “your own” and applicable / useful to your ideal customer. See my example below.
The Licensing options
There are Three licensing options for clipart, patterns, and digital paper packs.
Which one you need depends on what you want to make with the clipart or patterns, as well as how many.
In addition to these “1 per set licenses”, there is also a sitewide coloring book creator license if you are making coloring pages.
TUL: Trial Use License (FREEBIES) | ClipArt & 12×12 Paper
I offer many “freebies”. If you have downloaded a set of 12×12 digital paper or clipart files for free (TPT or IZ) by Carrie Stephens Art, it comes with a trial use license that allows transformative use. up to 200 end products.
Under this trial use license visible CREDIT is required on, in or parallel your creations when you are offering digital products or selling within an online shop. (if you don't want to give credit, upgrade to the standard license ;))

W/ A TUL You May:
- You May: Use my clipart, patterns, and papers to make physical or digital items >200 combined end-products for promotion (free downloads) or selling.
- You May: Upgrade the trial use license to a standard license to remove credit requirement or allow for more sales / downloads of the product using it.
W/ A TUL You May Not:
- You May Not: Gift, lend, giveaway, share, reproduce, transfer, redistribute, or SELL files as graphics, supplies or digital assets.
- You May Not: Make coloring pages (unless you have the coloring book creator license)
- You May Not: Use images or patterns in a way that is not compositional or transformative from the original design *see above
- You May Not: Create an end-product directly competitive with my original resource.
- You May Not: Sell on Print on demand marketplaces! (Redbubble, Society6, Amazon Merch, etc.)
- You May Not: Offer a digital product w/ movable objects that can be extracted in original form from within the application. (But you may if the image cannot be extracted or used as art like in boom decks, videos, TPT easel)
- You May Not: Create a SUPPLY for another maker to make something to sell. (requires a EUL license)
SUL: Standard Use License | ClipArt, Paper & Patterns
Standard use is the generous standard allowance I put on my purchased graphic assets (clipart / digital paper / patterns) for commercial use, providing the transformative use terms above are applied!
W/ A SUL You May:
- You May: Use graphic assets for making physical or digital goods to sell. >5000 units combined!
- You May choose to not provide a line of credit for using my art within your product, website or listing.
W/ A SUL You May Not:
- You May Not: Gift, lend, giveaway, share, transfer, reproduce, redistribute, or SELL files as a digital asset.
- You May Not: Make coloring pages (unless you have the coloring book creator license)
- You May Not: Use images or patterns in a way that is not compositional or transformative from the original design *see above.
- You May Not: Create an end-product directly competitive with the original resource you used to create it.
- You May Not: Sell on Print on demand marketplaces! (Redbubble, Society6, Amazon Merch, etc.)
- You May Not: Offer a digital product w/ movable objects that can be extracted in original form from within the application. (But you may if the image cannot be extracted or used as art, like in boom decks, videos, TPT easel)
- You May Not: Create a SUPPLY for another maker to make something to sell. (requires a EUL license)
EUL: Extended Use License | ClipArt, Paper & Patterns
An extended license for clipart, paper & pattern assets extends you the permission to make supplies-based end products. This is a 1 per set license.

W/ A EUL You May:
- You May: Make certain supplies-based items for other makers in your craft niche!
- You May: Have unlimited distribution–no quantity tracking.
W/ A EUL You May Not:
- You May Not: Gift, lend, giveaway, share, transfer, reproduce, redistribute, or SELL files as graphics or digital assets.
- You May Not: Sell DIGITAL supplies that compete directly with my original product. See my list of always restricted here.
3. PRINTABLES (Finished Files)
My printables aka: “finished files” are for classroom or home personal use only–restricted from any commercial use–offered for your enjoyment! They will be labelled as PU (personal use)

4. THE COLORING BOOK CREATOR
If you are interested in making coloring books, coloring pages or coloring focused activities with my downloads, this license is for you!
CBCL: Coloring Book Creator License
This is a single user license that comes only with the purchase of the coloring book creator set.
You Must | Requirements of Use:
Follow the simple requirements below to distristribute coloring pages w/ this license
- Include 4 elements (min) within each coloring focused page. (text included)
- Register the CBCL license–a google form requiring name, business name and email is included in the purchase download.
- Include a small line of credit on your coloring pages that includes your name / blog or shop.
W/ A CBCL You May:
- You May: Make coloring pages, books, products, and activities to sell or give away.(following 3 requirements above!)
- You May: Make coloring pages for a client to use according to the license, but you AND your client must both have a registered coloring book creator license.
- You May: Use any of Carrie Stephens Art black and white design assets (clipart or doodle patterns) within your coloring pages with this license. (trial or paid standard.)
- You May: use these images for non-coloring focused resources and printables without the 4 elements required as long as it has other CONTENT or purpose other than just coloring.
W/ A CBCL You May Not:
- You May Not: Gift, lend, giveaway, share, reproduce, transfer, redistribute, or SELL files as graphics, supplies or digital assets.
- You May Not: Make coloring pages to give away or sell for 3rd party commercial use. (your customer should be using it to color, not sell or giveaway, or they need to have their own license)
